Valentine's Day is the perfect time to celebrate love in its many forms. It’s a good day to honor relationships of all kinds, including love of family. So, here you go, co-parents! This is a list of fun and easy craft ideas for you and your kids to celebrate your love for one another.
Kids' prints crafts
Any craft that allows you to capture a moment in time, in the form of your children's hands or feet, is likely to become a cherished heirloom. By painting the bottom of their hands or feet and pressing them onto paper, this beautiful imprint can be laid onto a card or put under glass and framed. If you're really brave, you can make a cast out of clay, salt, dough or homemade plaster.
Picture this
Start with a picture frame and then give your children a wide selection of art supplies: paints, markers, flowers, candy, stamps, glitter, etc (well, maybe not glitter, unless you want to be cleaning it up until next Valentine's Day). Encourage your kids to decorate the frame any way they want, and you'll have a beautiful keepsake to display their photos in.
Wearables
Necklaces, bracelets, and key chains make ideal Valentine’s Day crafts for young children. You and your kids just need some beads from a local craft store, yarn, foam, construction paper or felt... and a lot of heart! This art project is fun and simple.
Food can be art too!
Baking is love made edible, and there are so many delicious ways to show your appreciation. Cupcakes and cookies are just the tip of the iceberg. Chocolate covered strawberries, vanilla butter popcorn, lollipops made from jolly ranchers, pretzel-hearts, Rice Krispies treats shaped like hearts, Valentine's Day puppy chow and so much more.
Don't forget about the classic mason jar ready-made cookie mix craft. While commonly seen at Christmastime, just swap out those red and green M&Ms for pink and white ones, and you'll be ready to go.
Or, if you've got four-legged friends in the family, show them some Valentine's Day love with their own customized treat jars. These are just a few ways you and your kids can make food into a fun filled art project this Valentine’s Day!
Messages of love and appreciation
Another way to use that mason jar (or any beautifully decorated box or container) is to fill it with messages of love and appreciation. Encourage your kids to write messages on slips of paper, explaining why they love various people in their lives. This can include parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and more. You should take part in this craft too!
Once everything is written down, put all the messages inside the decorative jar or box. This is a great craft for you and your kids to go back and reference later, as a reminder of all the love in your lives! Remember, at the end of the day, the most significant gifts don't come from a store. They come from the heart. Happy Valentine's Day!
